Here are a few examples of visual projects that I've put together over the past year. These are mostly just to give an idea of what a project might look like. You'll naturally want to choose your own direction for your project, but I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have on how to use related techniques.
Bear in mind that the way you describe your project is more important than the final product. I'm looking for your writing process, for how you think about presenting information.

Preventing Burn-Out Among U.S. Military Units
Although pictures feature far less prominently in this site, they do provide some critical elements of tone to complement the message of the post. As you prepare your visual projects, you'll want to consider just how much of a role pictures will take - and they don't necessarily need to dominate the work. Click for Example
Understanding Genre in Linguistic Traditions
Prezi is an online presentation tool that we'll be looking at next week. In this Prezi, text and zoom are used to differentiate between major ideas and the more specific details. Even though there are no photos or video incorporated in this presentation, it is a very visual work in the way it aligns the text to convey ideas. Click for Example
Slouching Toward Bethlehem: Yeats, Penguins, and the War on Terror
This is a short film I made for Parallel Octave, a poetry reading group in Baltimore. It took about three days to make this film using a 3-megapixel digital camera, a tripod, and some creative stop-motion. (if you choose to use stop-motion, I don't expect anything this long - I'm more interested in what you write about your work than the number of pictures it takes to make it look "just so.") A short example of how to use Freytag's Pyramid - replete with Courageous Mice, Imperial Storm Penguins, and a Tragic Lizard. This short website depends on pictures to help illustrate one way to think about narrative arc in fiction. For more on Freytag's Pyramid, take a look at The Shape of Narrative.
