Today's lesson is focused on using conflict within each individual scene to drive the plot forward.
Reminder: Workshop Comments Due Tomorrow Night
You are only required to comment on the two stories written by the students in your section. If you would like, please feel free to read and comment on the stories by your fellow students in the other section.
Readings Start Next Week
Grad Reading on Monday, Turnbull Lecture on Tuesday.
Scenes: A Ocean of Mini-Stories
The standard model for Freytag's Pyramid is very simple. What's wrong with it?
Group Activity - count all the scenes in the two stories read for today. Which story seems more complex? Which one was easier to follow? Which one was more interesting?
The Modified Freytag's Pyramid Is Really a Fractal
Each individual scene in a story works as its own Freytag Pyramid
In small groups, start by writing scene drafts. Each scene draft should have a beginning, middle, and an end. Then rotate the paper to the next person. Each person reads on the previous scene, and then writes the next.
